More Shulman

OK - So we like him. He was at our shop and the music was too loud. He said, "what is all that banging?!"
Another fabulous picture (and probably the most famous - Case Study 22) photographed by the legendary Julius Shulman:

Shulman going strong!

We have had the great pleasure of working with the master photography legend, Julius Shulman.
We did a photo assignment with the 98 year old in Palm Springs. At my house (Jaime) designed by Donald Wexler. We have also visited him at his stunning mid-century home off Mullholand in Los Angeles. Just recently, he graced us with his presence at our High Style book signing in Los Angeles and is quite the charmer! But don't be mistaken. His work is unprecedented and beyond fantastic. He has photographed most every famous piece of architectural history and has made a life for himself and namesake for over 7 decades. Here is a small but loving tribute 2 of some of his most famous icons Case Study 22, by architect Pierre Koenig and the Kaufmann House, by architect Richard Neutra ~

Hooray for Spring! Palm Springs that is . . .

Trina Turks dramatic collection of indoor/outdoor prints for Schumacher, many of which were originally designed for her resort collections, are inspired by the poolside lifestyle of Los Angeles and Palm Springs, and also the variety of cultural influences and landscapes that are found in California. Bold geometric patterns are mixed with prints derived from natural motifs, and also designs discovered in Trina’s extensive collection of vintage apparel. The color palette of this collection is fashion-influenced; bright and breezy shades of turquoise, citron, watermelon and marine are combined with smart neutrals such as sand dune and charcoal, giving these outdoor suitable prints a thoroughly modern appeal. These are our delicious picks for spring/summer 2009!

A Little La Dolce Vita to the City of Angels

Botanically inspired bath, body and home products imported from Italy bring a little bit of La Dolce Vita to the City of Angels. Santa Maria Novella Potpourri is a coveted mix of Tuscan flowers and herbs, with exotic notes of olive, eucalyptus, and Indian curry. Unusual, SEXY and addictive.

A popular product by this famous Farmaceutica company. This company was incorporated by the Florentine monks in 1221. The ministers and friars and preachers who used to live spartanly and humbly in the monasteries and started out with growing and breeding and cultivating herbs which would then be used to prepare the medications, creams, & balms.

The aroma of Santa Maria Novella‘s fabled Pot Pourri has percolated every nook and cranny. The scent is Florentine and is absolutely unforgettable!

Angelo Donghia

We recently visited the Donghia showroom and sat in on a delightful lecture by President Crans Baldwin. He featured archival photos of Angelo Donghia, founder of Donghia.

Donghia has always focused its design attention on both comfort and style—providing clients with chic, sophisticated interiors and products. Throughout the 70’s and early 80’s, Mr. Donghia’s client list grew to include a who’s who of celebrities and design stars, including Halston, Liza Minelli, Donald and Ivana Trump, Mary Tyler Moore, Calvin Klein, and Ralph Lauren. Many of Mr. Donghia’s installations and own homes, in New York, Connecticut, and Key West, were featured in countless magazines and have remained timely and timeless to this day.

Here is a beautiful shot of Mary Tyler Moore's New York apartment in the early 1980's designed by Angelo Donghia.

Suzani fabrics at Donghia

Suzani is a traditional decorative textile typically woven in silk and cotton during the 19th century in Central Asia. The Donghia design team has captured this time-honored art in an amazing woven textile while still staying true to the integrity of a Suzani blanket.

Unexpected and updated colors make Suzani an excellent choice for small and large upholstery projects. We simply love the pink and green colorway!
